The Information & Referrals (I&R) program at SAC is our intake process: the gateway through which our clients connect to services such as our Food Pantry, housing applications, utilities assistance, and many more resources available in English or Spanish.
The Center’s I&R advocates serve as the first contact for individuals and families seeking support. Advocates play a critical role in reducing barriers related to language, poverty, immigration status, and access.

The Spanish American Centers serves as an advocate for newly arrived residents, immigrants, refugees and migrants. Massachusetts has a large immigrant population with approximately 18.1 percent of the state’s residents being foreign born and over half of whom are naturalized. In addition, immigrants make up 21.9 percent of the labor force in our state — 27.0 percent as entrepreneurs, 29.3 percent as Science, Technology, Education, and Math (STEM) workers, and 38.6 percent as health aides (learn more from the American Immigration Council.)
Adjusting to any new environment can be challenging and we aim to assist in that process by providing information to help you move through the process. Immigration policies in the US are rapidly changing, resulting in increased enforcement, detention and deportation as well as restrictions on asylum and naturalization. For more information on knowing your rights, family preparedness, and the immigration hotline, please visit the Massachusetts Immigrant & Refugee Advocacy Coalition (MIRA).
Our bilingual, bicultural advocates can help you to access essential services in our region. We also offer notary services and host legal clinics with an immigration lawyer (call the Center at 978-534-3145 for scheduling).
